Baptism Team

The Baptism team have had another busy and enjoyable year helping families prepare for Baptism, being “friendly faces”, encouraging involvement and sharing faith.

The team has remained strong over the past 12 months, Debbie Furness is the first point of contact in her role as Baptism Co-ordinator and the rest of the team currently comprises our Home Visitors and Baptism Day Greeters - Lynn Wright, Mavis Clark, Gail Bretherton and Mark Turner.

Baptism provides our biggest opportunity for welcoming large numbers of visitors into our church whilst serving the families of our neighbourhood and encouraging those families to become part of our church community.

Each home visit and baptism day is unique and presents its own special opportunities to draw close to families during a pivotal time in their family life. There is a real sense of privilege in being able to undertake this work.

The Baptism team is a wonderful example of shared ministry in action, enabling members of the family of St Philips to reach out into the community in a caring and useful way. If you think you may like to serve in the Baptism team you can find out more about it from any team member.

  • St Philip (Westbrook)

    • St Philip's is both Methodist and Church of England - though we welcome all regardless of their background! The church was opened in 1989 - a modern, cosy building, situated next to St Philip's Primary School (opposite the Odeon cinema in the Westbrook Centre).
